Etiquette

Here are a few simple guidelines to follow when attending a Yoga class. By taking the time to become more mindful, we can all work to create an environment that is suitable for everyone.

Try to arrive to class early. Arriving to class 5 to 10 minutes early can help you relax and ground your mental state.

If you come late, please enter quietly.

Try not to leave early as it is disruptive to others.

Wear comfortable clothes.

Do not bring anything that beeps or rings inside the yoga room. This includes cell phones, pagers, and PDAs.  If you must have them, please set them to vibrate.

Let me know about past or recent injuries, surgeries or medical conditions that might affect your practice. If there are poses you can't or should not do, let me know and we can try a modified version of the pose.

Do not eat at least 90 minutes before class. If you practice yoga on a full stomach, you might experience cramps and/or nausea, especially in inversions, twists, and forward bends.  If you must eat, try to have a small meal or something that takes your hunger away.  Here are a few ideas for something to snack on:
1 Banana and some Soy Milk
1 Apple and 3 Ounces of Soy Cheese
1 slice of whole wheat bread and the egg whites of 3 hard boiled eggs
1 slice of whole wheat bread and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
1/2 whole wheat bagel and 1 ounce of cream cheese (low fat)

Bring a towel and a water bottle as some of the classes can be very warming to the body.

Read the "Styles of Yoga" page carefully when requesting the style of class you would like.

NO COMPETITION. Do not push your yoga practice as if you are working out with weights. Move to the best of your abilities without straining or injuring yourself. You will blossom faster if you leave competition out and work from where you are, not from where you think you should be.
